I am thrilled to share with you that I have recently completed my training at Huddersfield University to become a pharmacist prescriber!

This exciting achievement will allow me to further expand my aesthetic skills and provide even better care to my patients. Something that is very close to my heart.

So what is a pharmacist prescriber?

A pharmacist prescriber is a registered pharmacist who has completed additional training and education to be able to prescribe medication to patients. Now that I am qualified, I am now able to prescribe medication to treat a variety of conditions that are related to aesthetic medicine. Including being able to treat already diagnosed skin conditions such as acne a rosacea.

Being qualified in this way has given me the knowledge and skills to provide much more comprehensive care to my patients. Something that I have always been passionate about!

I was accepted onto the course in September last year, and it has been intense and challenging. At times very frustrating, and reminded me of my study to be a pharmacist over 20 years ago. Especially the 2 hour hand written pharmacology exam, and the 90 hours of supervised practice that I had to complete under the supervision of another aesthetics clinic. However, now I have achieved what I set out to do I can only see benefits for my patients and that makes me extremely proud.

Enhancing my professional qualification with prescribing will improve patient safety. I am now able to prescribe medications to treat potential side effects that may occur during or after a medical aesthetic treatment. This will significantly improve patient safety and ensure a positive treatment outcome.

Enhanced treatment plans are another advantage, I can now provide prescription only skin treatments that were previously unavailable to me, giving my patients a greater choice of treatments. Along with this, becoming a pharmacist prescriber will allow me to develop closer relationships with my patients so that I can manage their care more closely, adjusting treatment plans accordingly and monitor their progress.

The past six months have been an exciting and rewarding journey and has given me the skills and knowledge to provide a more holistic experience for my patients, and as they are my priority I think that’s a win win for myself and them!
